Thank you for purchasing one of our handcrafted boards, made in our small Clarion, PA studio. Whether you purchased a cutting or charcuterie board, it will provide many years of service and should last a lifetime. However, it will require proper care and occasional maintenance. Your new board has already been “seasoned” with 1-2 coats of Food-Grade Mineral Oil. Once your board starts appearing “dull” or “dry”, it’s time to re-condition it. We suggest using our “Board Butter”, which is a mixture of bees wax and Food-Grade Mineral. Oil.
Our cutting boards are crafted from North American solid hardwoods including cherry, and hard maple. Whether crafted from solid wood or multiple wood strips, our cutting boards are created to be equally a functional piece for your kitchen or a work of art to be used in any room of your home. Even with the careful work of our craftsmen and the use of premium materials, proper care and cleaning is required. To properly care for your wood cutting board please observe the following instructions. Failure to do so will shorten the life of your new cutting board substantially.
- Clean your cutting board by wiping with a damp sponge or towel and a mild detergent.
- Dry it completely and stand it in a rack or on edge to allow air movement completely around the board.
- DO NOT saturate your board with water, allow it to sit on a wet surface, sit/soak in standing water, or place it in the dishwasher. Excessive moisture will cause the surface to become rough, cause cracking/warping, and will lead to glue joint failure.
- Periodically treat your cutting board with mineral oil as it begins to look dull or dry. Do not use other oils (vegetable, olive, etc.) on your cutting board as they will build up and turn rancid. Failure to periodically treat your cutting board will cause the surface to become rough and can cause cracking and glue joint failure.
- DO NOT place your board in the dishwasher…EVER!!
With proper care your wood cutting board will provide many years of use and enjoyment. Over time every board will show signs of use and this is perfectly normal. If you would like to restore the surface of your cutting board you may lightly sand the surface, clean it well, and treat it with mineral Oil/wax mix.
If you purchased your board butter from us, thank you for supporting us. We appreciate you. Our board butter was handmade by us in Clarion, PA, and is made using a combination of Food-Grade Mineral Oil and bees wax.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Ensure your cutting board is clean and dry prior to application.

- Add additional board butter from the container as necessary.
- After the cutting board surface has been completely covered, allow the cutting board to soak overnight.
- Wipe off any excess board butter that did not soak in.
- Store your container of board butter at room temperature.
- As a reminder, wood cutting boards should be stored upright and in a dry place.
- Re-apply board butter cutting board when your cutting board starts to look “dry”.
